Interested in Joining SAI?

What is SAI?

Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, is a Greek music fraternity. Founded June 12, 1903, at the University School of Music in Ann Arbor, Michigan, it is an organization whose purposes are to foster interest in music and to promote social contact among persons sharing an interest in music. It is a specialized Fraternity which confines its membership to persons interested in the single academic discipline—music—in accredited colleges and universities. Sigma Alpha Iota organizes its group life specifically to promote competence and achievement within its field.

What does this really mean?

Sigma Alpha Iota takes the best of what a social sorority/fraternity and an honor society have to offer a college student and places it into one sisterhood with the common thread of music. The appeal of Sigma Alpha Iota is that this sisterhood is for a lifetime—your social life with this organization is continued with a network of alumnae groups worldwide. The honor and appeal of this group is that it is known worldwide for its excellence in the field of music and in its philanthropies. Anyone that is aware of Sigma Alpha Iota knows the high standards that this group requires of its members and understands that as a member, you have the same qualities.

It is an honor to be an Sigma Alpha Iota sister and it is an honor to be asked to join!

Recruitment Requirements

All women interested in rushing Sigma Alpha Iota must fit the following requirements:

  • Attend the required number of Recruitment events, to be determined by the Vice President of Membership
  • Submit a faculty letter of recommendation

How Do I Get Started?

If you are interested in becoming a part of Theta Lambda, keep an eye out on the Music Dept Org Sync page or the SAI Bulletin Board in the Music Building at the beginning of each semester for times and dates for Recruitment Info Sessions.

In the mean time, talk to us! There are sisters in every ensemble and we can often be found in the Music Building wearing our bright red jerseys! We’re hard to miss, very sociable, and willing to answer any and all questions you may have about the wonderful world of SAI!

For additional questions about becoming a Sigma Alpha Iota Sister, feel free to contact our Vice President of Membership, Carolyn Craig at carolyn.craig2806@furman.edu. She’ll be happy to help you!
